We collect vehicle registration marks (VRMs) entered by users in order to perform vehicle checks. If you make a payment, your transaction is processed by Stripe — we do not store or handle card details. We may collect an email address if you contact us directly.
VRMs are collected solely to perform the vehicle checks you have requested and to return the results to you. We do not use your data for marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond fulfilling your lookup request.
We use the following third party processors to deliver our service:
Stripe — payment processing. Card data is handled entirely by Stripe and is never stored by MotorQuoter.
Supabase — temporary caching of lookup results (see Data Retention below).
Experian / One Auto API — vehicle data including history, finance, and write-off records.
Anthropic — AI-powered damage assessment for the Salvage Assessment Tool.
VRM lookup results are cached for 48 hours to avoid duplicate API calls, then automatically deleted. We do not retain a record of which user performed which lookup beyond this window.
MotorQuoter does not sell, rent, or otherwise transfer personal data to third parties for commercial purposes. Data shared with the processors listed above is strictly for the purpose of delivering the service.
Some MotorQuoter reports — currently the Salvage Assessment Tool — include links to parts listed for sale on eBay UK. These are affiliate links provided through the eBay Partner Network: if you click one and go on to make a purchase, we may earn a small commission from eBay at no extra cost to you. When you click an affiliate link, the eBay Partner Network receives the referral so any resulting purchase can be attributed to us; this is governed by eBay's own privacy policy. This commission never affects the parts prices or repair estimates we show — those are calculated independently, and play no part in our valuations or recommendations. You are always free to buy parts anywhere; the links are a convenience only.
We use essential cookies only on MotorQuoter, required for session management and payment processing. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party analytics on our own site. Where a report includes affiliate links to eBay (see "Affiliate Links" above), clicking one takes you to eBay, which may set its own cookies under eBay's privacy policy — this only happens if you choose to click through, and no advertising or tracking cookie is set on MotorQuoter itself. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may affect your ability to use the service.
